Why Being Proactive is So Crucial

Things are most likely to go wrong, that’s just a component of life. Whether these scenarios have a large negative impact or are simply small aggravations depends on how proactive you are. Living a life of reacting to problems in the mist of the issue, adds stress and magnifies challenges.

Proactivity provides stability in life and minimizes difficulties and challenges. When you’re proactive, it’s easy to be positive, calm, and focused on a solution.

Choose proactivity and practice control over your life:

1. Being proactive is a way to defuse challenges that have the potential to become future problems.

  • Imagine you have a and truck with 250k miles. There’s a good chance it will break down in the near future. Knowing this, and being proactive about the situation, you get ahead of this potential issue by buying a new car. If you’re not at that point, you can start to save up for a new car or the repairs that are soon to come. Either way, it’s smart to prepare yourself, so you won’t have to be without a vehicle in near future.
  • The person who isn’t proactive will drive it until the wheels fall off and have to take the bus.

2. Give yourself the opportunity to find more solutions that work in your favor. Most of the possible options evaporate when you wait until the last minute to think of how to rectify the situation. When you reach this point, you don’t have the resources or time to entertain all of the possible options or the best solutions. You’re forced to piece together whatever plan will get you by in the final hour. Meaning, you make things harder on yourself and that creates more stress in your life.

3. Plan and think ahead. To be proactive, it’s essential to look ahead and consider what your future looks like. You know your situation better than anyone else, so plan for what’s to come and prepare for the worst possible outcome. When you look at it this way, you can put yourself in a position of power when it or if it comes crashing down. This is a more effective way to live life instead of playing it by ear.

4. Create a better life. Living life without a plan is just surviving. You’ll spend all of your time reacting to the problems that come up one by one instead of creating a better life. Being proactive about your future means you give yourself the space and luxury of time to create a life beyond what you currently have. Here is where you start to create a savings of some sort, so you can handle things that happen at moments notice and still have the means to live comfortably. You want to know that the other areas of your life are secure and won’t be affected by the current issue at hand.

5. Be equipped and empowered. Being proactive means, you believe that you have the ability to make sound decisions and you take full responsibility over your life. You react to life instead of planning it out when you wait for a problem to come up before taking action. Get ahead of issues you see coming so you won’t have to struggle to make it out on the other end. Not doing so will bring on a domino effect, and you’ll be robbing Peter to pay Paul. In other words, taking funds and resources from other areas of your life to solve the problem and always playing catch up to get back on track.

6. Always have options. Let’s say, things at work are not the best. Your employer doesn’t like you, and his power over your position is growing daily. If you stay until he fires you, you’ll have to take whatever you can get in the next week or so because your rent is due. However, if you start looking for another job right now, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to choose from.

  • You have limitless options if you’re proactive. If you wait until you’re forced to act, you’ll have less than expected.

7. Find peace of mind. You have nothing to worry about when you know what’s going to happen and you’re already prepared for it. Live your life without anxiety and find peace in knowing that you already have it covered.

  • When you live reactively, you’re constantly waiting on the other shoe to drop. That’s a stressful life to live and an even deeper hole to dig out of.

8. Make a clear path. Being proactive makes your life journey an easier path to take. By looking ahead, you’re able to develop and set goals for the future. Don’t waste time on things that don’t serve your personal or professional life journey goals. Proactive people have a mission in life and a blueprint of how to get there and complete it.

You set the standard for your life and how you want to live it. Create boundaries if you have to, to maintain that control over preventable situations. The best way to do so is to always be ahead of what’s to come because you know that life isn’t going to be perfect. Always create options for yourself so you end up ahead of the game. Most things can be handled with a savings of some sort and a plan of action full of what ifs.

There are many benefits to being proactive on a daily basis. People who are proactive have more control over their lives. Life challenges are prevented before they become overwhelming and that’s a more effective and enjoyable way to live. Just knowing that you got it taken care of eliminates so much stress from your life. Be proactive and stay on top of things, even if you don’t see them coming. Emergencies happen in mere seconds, so be ready to handle it.

Take a few minutes once a week to look ahead and see if you can be proactive about anything you see coming. What does the future look like to you? How can you minimize potential problems and put yourself in a position to maximize your opportunities?
