When Feeling Overwhelmed, You Need an Effective Action Plan

Anyone over the age of 10 has felt overwhelmed at some point in time in their life. It takes more to overwhelm some, than others, yet the effect and feelings are one in the same. It can be really challenging to focus on the solutions and the required steps to solve the situation. Nonetheless, focus and taking action can fix most of the negative situations you face in life.

Many of us are susceptible to worrying and then do things to make ourselves feel better about the situation. This doesn’t resolve the issue at hand, it simply puts a band aid on it and helps us avoid the issue temporarily.

Use these methods to produce a plan and go from highly overwhelmed to feeling calm again:

1. Take note of what’s in your control. There’s little to no point stressing over things that are out of your control. When you do so, you’re only feeding into the distractions of the issue. Identify what you can control and place your focus solely on that. Anything else is a waste of your time because you aren’t working on the solution.

2. Concentrate on solutions. You now know what you can and can’t control, so it’s time to focus on finding a solution to the problem. Stressing over the issue will only heighten up your anxiety and stress levels. The best way to solve your issue is to invest time and attention to the solution. Weigh out all of your options and put it in motion.

3. Make a plan. Create a strategy for putting your plan in action. Find out what you need to do, make steps to get you from point A to point D, and you’ll increase your chances of overcoming and conquering your challenges. Save yourself some time by using this same blueprint to solve future issue as they come about.

4. Make sure you’re rested. Being overwhelmed is stressful, so it’s important to get some sleep and stay as calm as possible. That doesn’t imply that you should lying in bed all day. Lack of sleep will only slow you down because you can’t think straight when you’re tired. Get a good night’s sleep, wake up early, and accomplish as much as you can throughout the day.

5. Eat healthy. Lots of people stop eating healthy when they’re worried or stressing over something. They tend to grab comfort food to wake up their endorphins and sooth their nerves. Neither is going to be great for you or assist you in dealing with the situation at hand. Maintain a healthy diet through this difficult time. You can’t eat the problem away, so deal with it head on.
6. Remind yourself that there is greatness in your life. You may have more than the vast majority of people in the world, so be grateful for what you have. This could be loved ones, talents, and financial structure. All of which can aid you in getting over certain situations. Make a list of all the people and resources you have in your life that you value and be thankful of just how lucky you are.

 7. Live a little. A weekend getaway, a night out with friends, or an online party may be what you need to release your frustrations. You’ll have an easier time of getting a good night’s sleep and you’ll be less anxious about the situation. You should have a break to enjoy life if you’ve been hard at work all week. You can return to the grind after you’ve had your bit of fun.

8. Celebrate your wins. The smallest bit of progress is worthy of celebration. Get excited and be proud of yourself for moving forward. The closer you get the end, is a win for the work you’ve put into your journey. Celebrating is highly motivating because each one of your successes will lead you to another. Keep up the good work and don’t stop until you’ve reached your goal.

9. Get help. Two or three heads can accomplish more than a single person. Request assistance from someone who’s experienced what you are going through and see what advice they may have for you. You won’t be any worse off than you are at this moment, so ask for some help. The worst anybody can say is “no” and if they don’t know, they can point you in the direct of someone who can.

Help can also be in the form of a specialist, so reach out to a professional if you need to.

Feeling overwhelmed is an emotion everyone has experienced. It can end up being debilitating if it’s not resolved effectively. Put your time and energy into the important things so you can focus on the solutions needed. Stressing just makes things worse and you’ll become less capable of overcoming this hurdle when you invest all of your time into worrying about the things you can’t control.

Hint: If you have adult children who are able bodied (without health or mental issues) that you worry about, Stop! When they come to you with issues, give them the best advice you know, with options they can use to help themselves, and then let it go. They have to make their own life decisions and when they fall, they’ll be back for more guidance. You have done your best as a parent to raise them well, now trust that they obtained what you taught them through the years and take it off your plate. Don’t overwhelm yourself with what you can’t control. You can always love them from afar.

It’s interesting to see how many difficulties can be easily handled if you focus solely on solving the issue. You won’t find any beneficial answers at the bottom of a bag of chips. When obstacles come your way, don’t stress out over it. Stay calm, find an alternative solution, and then make it happen. Don’t even give it much thought once you have the solution, just take it step by step and see how it plays out.
